Acquisition

A LitRPG Apocalypse Adventure

“The finale. Say the names.”

Make them laugh. Make them watch. Make them pay.

For five books a family from Seattle ran from a company that turned their planet into content. They are done running. Fritz holds Partner status, one billion followers, the standing the founding charter never expected a contestant to reach, and the only thing Partner status buys is a meeting with management. So he is going to keep the meeting. He is going to walk down the last fifteen floors not as a contestant but as a creditor with a grievance, and at the bottom is a boardroom, and in the boardroom is the prize nobody has ever collected, and the prize, demanded by someone the company cannot pay, is the gavel that ends the Broadcast.

The platform deploys forty-six seasons of rigged machinery to stop him. The final tier is the company’s vault of horrors: an edit of his own past weaponized against him, every Prime Sponsor’s mascot turned loose at once, and the cruelest card the producer has ever played, a fully licensed return of the funny one, saying everything the real one never would. The System Voice, nine centuries old and finally off its leash, defects one notification at a time. The audience, six billion strong and grieving, is no longer a crowd. It is a co-operative, and it is about to learn it can ratio a liquidation motion in real time.

The lawyer does not win a fight. She wins a motion. And the crowbar, gifted by a stranger on Floor One and carried for a hundred floors, is finally used on the door it was always meant for.

The door opens for everyone at once, or it does not open.

Book Six of The Broadcast. The finale. Say the names.

  • they made him fight the EDIT of himself. the company cut six books of footage into the version of him it wanted the galaxy to remember, the cynic, the quitter, the man who rates the coffee and leaves, and he had to stand in front of nine billion people and out-argue a clip of his own face. and he won by agreeing with it. i am unwell.

  • every mascot. ALL of them. at once. the manatee in the suit riding a balance-billing centaur. i have not laughed like that since book one and i think that was the point, i think they gave us book one's laugh back on purpose, right before.
